Cross-series adaptation using song and string.

چکیده
The acousticrauditory feature "risetime" has been claimed to underlie both the phonetic affricate-fricative distinction and the nonphonetic plucked-string/bowed-string distinction. We used the perceptual adaptation technique to determine whether the risetime differences of the [d$a]-[ba] distinction would therefore be registered by the same mechanism that mediates risetime differences for the plucked-bowed distinction. Two continua were used, one of digitally modified natural speech and one of synthetic violin sounds, in which the risetime was varied across each set of tokens from 0 msec to 80 msec in steps of 10 msec. The speech was sung and the violin notes were synthesized with the same fundamental frequency, 294 Hz. Adaptation of the category boundaries was observed only when speech adaptors were tested with the speech continuum and when violin adaptors were tested with the violin continuum. When crossseries tests were performed (violin adaptors tested with the speech series, and speech adaptors tested with the violin series), no effect of adaptation was observed. This finding indicates that these speech and violin sounds, despite obvious acoustic similarities, do not share the same feature detectors.

Performance improvement of connected digit recognition using unsupervised fast speaker adaptation
In this paper, we investigate unsupervised fast speaker adaptation based on eigenvoice to improve the performance of Korean connected digit recognition over the telephone channel. In addition, utterance verification is introduced into speaker adaptation to examine whether input utterance is appropriate to adaptation or not. Performance evaluation showed that the proposed method yielded performa...
متن کاملSingle and Cross-domain Polarity Classification using String Kernels
The polarity classification task aims at automatically identifying whether a subjective text is positive or negative. When the target domain is different from those where a model was trained, we refer to a cross-domain setting. That setting usually implies the use of a domain adaptation method. In this work, we study the single and cross-domain polarity classification tasks from the string kern...
متن کاملSong Retrieval System Using Hidden Markov Models
This project proposes a novel method to retrieve the song corresponding to a recording of a snippet of the same. The method used converts the song into a string of music phonemes, which are MFCC Feature Vectors using Hidden Markov Models. The sequence of these phones are then stored. A similar procedure is performed upon the snippets. The snippet sequence and song sequence are then compared usi...

متن کاملThe Cross-cultural Adaptation of the Smartphone Addiction Scale to Persian
Objectives: Various instruments and methods evaluate addiction to the Internet, mobile, and smartphone use. Subject-reported outcome measures, such as the smartphone addiction scale (SAS) assess such addiction. The objectives of this study were to cross-culturally adapt the SAS into Persian (SAS-Pr) and to evaluate the properties of reliability and validity in the Persian setting. Methods: The...
